The Rower Inistioge GAA Club members and supporters are saddened to hear of the passing of a “true GAA man”, and beloved former Club president Dick Bolger.
Dick born in 1929, was a founder member of the Rower Inistioge Club in 1955 and played right half back in the Clubs first ever competitive adult game that year. Dick won an All Ireland Junior medal with Kilkenny in 1956 scoring the winning goal in the final against London becoming the first Rower Inistioge man to win an All Ireland medal.
Dick was a selector when the Club won the Senior County final in 1968, and in 1969 was a selector with Kilkenny when Eddie Keher captained the team to All Ireland sucess. He was a selector with the Club senior team for many years throughout the 1970's and 80's and with Kilkenny again in the mid seventies.
Dick was a passionate supporter of both The Rower Inistioge Club and Kilkenny and in his life time he got to witness his club and county win both county and All-Ireland titles. He was always around the club, ever present at Club games and training sessions and was willing to help out in any way he could and was a wise head at many an Executive meeting down through the years.
Dick's great love of Gaelic games was passed onto his family, and enjoyed many great days as they represented the Club with distinction on numerous hurling, football and camogie teams.
To Kathleen, Michael, Criona, Regina, Richard, Liam, Ciaran, Brendan, Claire , Anne, grandchildren, sisters Nellie and Rita, brother Monsr. William and to his great friend Micheál Roche, the Club sends it's sincere sympathies on Dick's passing.
The Club will provide a Guard of Honour for the removal on Tuesday and funeral mass on Wednesday. You may leave a condolence by clicking on the following link:
